Tuesday Tuneage - 16th June 2009

Normal service has been resumed... for now!

Tuneage Numero 1: Grizzly Bear - 'Two Weeks'
Firstly a great band, may well do a feature about their debut album soon. Secondly a great tune. Thirdly a great video (trust me give it time). All round greatness.

Tuneage Numero 2: DJ Mujava - 'Township Funk'
It may be a song that has been around for ages but I opened this one up at a house gathering the other day and it went down a treat.

Tuneage Numero 3: Band of Horses - 'No One's Gonna Love You'
A pretty song from one of the world's prettiest bands (in the music sense). 3 and a half minutes of intricate bliss.

Tuneage Numero 4: Bombay Bicycle Club - 'Dust On the Ground'
A single... from the forthcoming album... about bloody time! To say we are excited is bluntly obvious. More of the same please.

Tuneage Numero 5: The Lonely Island - 'I'm On a Boat'
Poseidon, look at me. 'Nuff said.

Catch you later.

Return of the Noise Disturbance

So admittedly it has been far, far too long since the last post but now we are back and we're bigger-er, stronger-er and better-er than ever! Exam time is over and now seeing as we have nothing better to do its all go from here on in! A new look for Noise Disturbance will be on the way, the return of past features and we are now on Facebook too. Add ND as a friend for the latest news, updates and to get in touch; as always your ideas and comments are taken on board!

Right then, back to business.

A song that my housemates have been enjoying, to say the least, has been the Leo Zero remix of Florence and The Machine's Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up). Despite it being 8minutes long it moves from being quite a chilled and laid back little tune to a euphoric anthem. Florence's debut album 'Lungs' is out on July 6th and is shaping up to take the charts by storm but will it match the hype? Check out her myspace page here to listen to the remix and preview a few songs from the album.

This week has seen Kasabian's return in the form of 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' which is sitting pretty at the top of the charts. It is an album of two halves with a fast paced and hard hitting opening set with my personal highlight 'Underdog' getting things started (check out the 'official' video below, despite not having an official single release it reached number 32 in the download chart). The second half slows it down with songs such as 'Ladies and Gentlemen' and 'Happiness' showing off the band's range with 'Vlad the Impaler' thrown in to remind you that they haven't lost their bite. It is a welcomed come back from one of the UK's most consistent performers and proves that they deserve their acclaim as a band that have what it be ambassadors for british
rock music.

Finally here is a little gem that I came across during one of my many revision breaks. You might remember in my last post I told you to scout out a band by the name of Magic Magic. Well they happened to do a session for the Flophouse Sessions back in January which is available for you to listen (here) or download (here). Seriously, check it out.

That's all for now folks but keep checking back here and on our Facebook profile for regular updates.

Catch you later.

Hiatus Due to Revision - Bad Times

Apologies to everyone for the delay in posts! But as most readers will know the summer exams are on their way so its all hands on deck to make some progress to make those revision notes that should have been done way back! With that said, it is going to be quiet around here for the next few weeks whilst we attempt to cram like never before and fluke a few good marks.

I couldn't just leave you without any music tips to keep you going though so here they are:

Albums:
May 4th -

The Maccabees - "Wall of Arms"

Very very excited about this album which will hopefully help them get some real recognition. Check out the preview album track "Can You Give It?" from the last Tuesday Tuneage.

The Horrors - "Primary Colours"

Like nothing else you will hear this summer, the change from over-hyped scenesters to big hitters in just one album is huge.
Go over to nme.com to get a full preview of the album whilst it is still up.

May 11th -

Graham Coxon - "The Spinning Top"

The guy is a ledge and this is going to be a welcomed return to form as well as a little experiment with it being a 'story' album.
If you get the chance to catch him and Blur in the summer then spare tickets are welcome over here.

Now for the songs and artists you need in your life:

Magic Magic - "Over Your Heart"
This will cheer you up no end even if your head is buried in a text book. Gloriously dainty and smooth indie-pop despite the band having two drummers. Check out their self-entitled debut album if you get the chance, great investment.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - "Young Adult Friction"
A cool little quartet from New York bringing shoe-gaze and wall-of-fuzz music to keep you believing there is still sunshine and merriment beyond your desk.

Phoenix - "Lisztomania"
French pop that will get you tapping your biro to the beat and eventually leave you dancing around your room.

Bombay Bicycle Club - "Evening/Morning"
A band tipped for big things, debut LP out in the summer and this song is key for when you are at your wits end around 11pm and you can not cram another sentence. Check out their latest single "Always Like This" as well.

Camera Obscura - "French Navy"
Elegant indie-pop from these Glaswegians. Retro summery feel without despite a penchant for some sad lyrics.

Passion Pit - "The Reeling"
This will be the first song I will be playing after the exams have finished! Cheery, energetic and a party starter.

So there you have it, keep an eye out for the next batch of posts around the 4th June, good luck to all those with exams, enjoy your freedom to all those that don't! As usual all comments, wannabe writers and followers are always welcome.

Catch you later.

Delayed Tuesday Tuneage - 11th April 2009

Ok. I was a bit late. Apologies. A boy has gotta revise though!

Exciting times ahead for Noise Disturbance however, new writers on their way, new articles and an all together better time! Might be a bit quieter for a wee while during those pesky revision and examination weeks but then should be in full swing. Here are some tunes with a capital CH for you to dance like no-ones watching to.

Tuneage Numero 1: The Horrors- Sea Within a Sea
After not really being bowled over by their debut album the up and coming 'Primary Colours' is set to be one of the most promising releases of the year with the band taking a new and exciting route.

Tuneage Numero 2:
Friendly Fires - Skeleton Boy (Air France Remix)
Being locked in my bedroom looking out over the beautiful sunshine would be so depressing if it wasn't for songs like this to give you hope that summer is not far away. Best enjoyed in the late evening outside in the garden.

Tuneage Numero 3: Eugene McGuinness - Fonz
Ha. Its a song called Fonz. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Tuneage Numer 4: The Maccabees - Can You Give It
Proof that 'Wall of Arms' is something to be really excited about. Remarkable.

Catch you later.

Tuesday Tuneage: 31st March

Ok, so we will see how long this regular feature will remain 'regular'. Basically the theory is that every Tuesday I will post 4 songs that I think you should hear that week. Like what you hear? Then let NB know by sending us a comment!

Tuneage Numero 1: Your Twenties - 'Caught Wheel'
I challenge you not to sing 'Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-eel' after a second listen.

Tuneage Numero 2: Pete and The Pirates - 'Jennifer'
The video poses the important question - why can't sombreros be worn in the surgery?

Tuneage Numero 3: The Joy Formidables - 'Austere'
Yes. I know I am 9 months late. I am sorry. Still rocks though.

Tuneage 4: Blur - 'Coffee and TV'
Why? Because it's an amazing video to an amazing song.

Catch you later.

Klangers

Its a welcomed return for the London art-rockers The Rakes with their third album 'Klang'. Following what the band decided to call a 'dull' music scene in their home town they found their inspiration in Berlin and whatever they have in the water over there seems to have worked. The opening two tracks 'You're In It' and 'That's the Reason' are the typically punchy pieces that we have come to expect and are evidence that The Rakes make music for the dancefloor. Latest single '1989' is a more cheery version of the classic '22 Grand Job' and does not come as much of a suprise that it was chosen as their first release.

However despite how much the album itself works you can't escape the fact that sounds like 'Capture/Release' Mark II but as its not 2005 anymore it does not have the same impact.
If you can see past this and appreciate it in its own respect then you are left with a decent LP.

I will leave you with their vid for 1989.

Catch you later.

Fingerpicking Good

It may well be over a month and a half away but I have been getting excited recently for the new Graham Coxon album. 'The Spinning Top' is a 15 track concept album that is released on May 11th and tells the story of a man's journey from birth to death. It is a return to an acoustic lead performance for one of the most gifted guitarists out there which I am going to put down to having a slight influence from Coxon's recent activities with a Mr Peter Doherty.

His solo offerings outside of Blur show that he is not too shabby at this song writing malarky and if you haven't already got 'The Kiss of the Morning', 'Happiness in Magazines' or 'Love Travels at Illegal Speeds' then they are definite purchases and you do need them in your life.

Of course listening to those albums and then rolling back the years and listening to Blur's catalogue then you cannot help but get excited for the summer where they are performing at Hyde Park and headlining T in the Park as well as appearing at Oxegen too. Exciting times for any 90's kid!

So I will leave you with a live version of forthcoming track Sorrow's Army from Mr Coxon to wet your whistle.

Catch you later.

After the beep...

Another new band has come onto my radar of late in the form of The Answering Machine another bright new act hailing from Manchester (what is it about that place and spawning great new music?!?!). Formed in '05 this four piece have started to get a bit of momentum behind them and their last single 'Cliffer' is a must hear and went on to win BBC 6Music's Rebel Playlist.

Their happy clappy music is really fitting for the gorgeous sunshine that apparently the whole country is enjoying but that is underselling the art-pop four as their cheery tunes have depth and heart. Their sound is akin to Los Campesinos bit with a bit more urgency. After touring intensively for a while supporting the Casio Kids and Flashguns they will be appearing at the Hinterland festival in Glasgie at the end of April so if you get the chance check them out!

Their debut album Another City, Another Sorry is out in May and looks set to be helping me with exam stress by bringing a bit of sunshine indoors.

Catch you later.

Wheel Are Us

Finally something new to be excited about! Twisted Wheel are set to release their debut album 'We Are Us' on April 13th and the Mancunian trio are looking like big hitters in the making and a refreshing influx of talent. With a front man that doesn't hold back or let a small thing like modesty stand in his way in the form of Jonny Brown the new album is in their own words 'pure magnificance'. Their sound takes root from The Clash, The Fall, The Jam and the early Arctic Monkey's sound.

They have been tirelessly touring round the UK and beyond of late and are the support band of choice helping to kick start the gigs of Oasis (at Wembley of all places), The Courteeners, Kasabian, The Rascals and a Mr Paul Weller.

Their latest single lends it's title from the album and is an instant northen anthem classic and is here as a teaser for all you beautiful people! Watch this space folks!

Catch you later.

Whoop Whoop Whoops

All I seem to be doing so far is getting excited about some of my favourite band's returning back with new albums but I think that is what 2009 is going to be about and the third outing from Yeah Yeah Yeahs is going to be one that will be on repeat on my iTunes! 'It's Blitz!' was leaked last week forcing the band to push the release date forward to next week which can only be a good thing for all YYY fans. I have had a sneak peak at the album and was suprised by it, but in a good way. With Nick Zinner's guitar being the driver behind most of their songs it comes as a shock when you discover that he mans the synth for practically the entire album. New single 'Zero' is a typically punchy Karen O fuelled delivery but the stand out song for me has to be 'Soft Shock' which is like a fresh retake on the old classic 'Maps'. I'm really looking foward to hearing the acoustic version that is a bonus track on the album.

Here is the new single direct from the band's YouTube channel for your auditory pleasure!

All Kind Words

Much like this post (sorry won't happen again) the followup to The Maccabees debut album has seemed to have taken a long time but the South London band are back with a new song release available for free download and a new album. 'No Kind Words' is the first track to be released from the scheduled April release titled 'Wall of Arms' and is a familiar but darker sound to previous album 'Colour It In'. Apparently all other offerings will be much lighter and happier songs but it does seem that the bees have retained their defined sound despite maturing musically.

The art-rockers are touring the UK over the next few weeks and is a must see in my opinion.
Head over to themaccabees.co.uk for a free download if you haven't already (last week there was a sample of what I can only describe as a gloriously sweet little tune playing over a photo montage on the site, I have no idea what it was called but I hope that it is on the album!). The video that accompanies No Kind Words stars self professed Maccabees fan Matt Horne of Gavin & Stacey fame and is available as always below.

Albion and Arcadian Airwaves

Unsuprisingly Pete Doherty has been a much talked about subject this week, however this time its for the right reasons. With a new album on the way, entitled 'Grace/Wastelands', due for release on March 16th Pete is back on the publicity circuit and a few bootlegs have been flying around the web. A particular find is the new single 'Last of the English Roses' as performed on the Late Late Show over in Ireland.

It will be quite interesting to see what comes from this album, there are a couple of interesting collaborations (the most intriguing one being Graham Coxon) but I think it will be different with Pete Doherty only having himself really for support to see how it all goes.

Of course whenever listening to a bit of Doherty two things always follow: the digging out of every decent acoustic song that he has recorded and many, many repeated plays of The Libertines. If you get the chance, take a look at 'The Freewheelin Pete Doherty' acoustic album over sendmedeadflowers.com
(in the May 2007 archives) because no Doherty or Libertines fan should be without it.

Oceanic Monkeys

So yeah I know I am a week late but give a guy a break, I only started this blog today!!! It will probably become clear that when it comes to Arctic Monkeys I am a loyal, loyal follower. These guys can't really do much wrong in my eyes. They have just completed a tour of Oz, playing what seems to literally be the hottest festival in the form of the Big Day Out and debuted some new material that some of us have been waiting for for about a year! There have been live performances of four new songs possibly bookmarked for the new album and a cover of Nick Cave's 'Red Right Hand'. Seems like Mr Turner is still on form with the lyrics, unsuprisingly taking a lot of influence from Miles Kane (The Rascals, The Last Shadow Puppets) as they are a bit more abstract and follow suit of some of the TLSP's B-sides such as 'Gas Dance'. So with 'Go-Kart', 'Pretty Visitors', 'Dangerous Animals' and my favourite 'Crying Lightning' circling the web its your chance to sample some of the fruits that have come from the desert sessions that AM had with the Josh Homme of QOTSA at the Joshua Tree. According to Alex Turner the album is "78% done, I have been working in fractions actually - two thirds. I'm thrilled with it." So rumour has it that we can expect something out in the summer - with a possibility of a few UK festival performances, lets hope so!

So here is a video of 'Crying Lightning' from the Sydney leg of BDO apologies for the quietness of the video and with it only being in mono but just crank up the volume and give it a listen if you haven't heard it already, it is so so worth the listen!

And Tom said let their be light!

Well I suppose this is the birth of my new and first blog. This could be the start of something beautiful or it could be just a poor attempt to escape from making much needed notes for my degree... we shall see!

This will (hopefully) be a place to share opinions, ideas and general merriment for the masses. So my basic idea at the moment is to let you know what music I think you should give a try, songs and artists that keep me going through the mundane slog of day to day life and to brighten up your day!

It is my solemn promise to keep this up to date and try to keep you all posted. So get involved, the best places on the web are the places where its not just some idiot trying his best not to sound like a pretentious idiot and failing miserably but where people get involved in how these things run! We will see where we end up...
